When, how and why the stock market opens and closes just like other businesses!

One might think that since the market is digital, it never closes! ๐Ÿ’š But, this is false! โŒ

The stock market actually opens and closes ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

US markets are open on a schedule, just like other businesses! ๐Ÿ’ผ

Thatโ€™s the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

Both are regularly open from 9:30am EST to 4:00pm EST on weekdays โ˜€๏ธ

Thatโ€™s 6:30am PST to 1:00pm PST ๐ŸŒŠ

In addition, markets are open for extended hours trading from:

4:00am EST to 9:30am EST (pre-market)

and 4pm EST to 8pm EST (after-hours)

During extended hours, you can still place trades, but because there are less other people trading, orders may take longer to fill โŒ›

Wanted to buy a stock, but didn't make it before the market closed? ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Donโ€™t worry! Your order will go through as soon as the market opens again! ๐Ÿ‘

In other countries, stock market hours are different & based on their own time zones ๐ŸŒ

For example, the London Stock Exchange is open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM GMT ๐Ÿ’‚โ€โ™‚๏ธ

Understanding when the market is open is important knowledge for every investor ๐Ÿง

Now you know why your stocks orders might not go through instantly! โšก
