Starbucks: Founding Story

How one company became the largest coffee company in the world, and so much more.

Three students from the University of San Francisco named Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowker wanted to sell high-quality coffee and roasts ๐ŸŒ†

Their first coffee shop opened in 1971 in Seattle, Washington ๐Ÿ›

In 1987, businessman Howard Schultz purchased the company and started to expand Starbucks across Seattle.

Starbucks was a hit, and it soon entered the national market ๐ŸŒŽ

In 1994, Shultz sold 12% of the company for $25 million to expand internationally.

In the early 2000s, Starbucks heavily focused on selling to local markets ๐Ÿ“š

They added local books, music, films, and ice cream.

Schultz continued to lead Starbucks as the CEO and even led a 38% growth bump in 2021 โšก๏ธ
