Ray Dalio: Early Life

Born in uniquely humble beginnings, let’s talk about the early life of Ray Dalio, another great investor who invented core strategies across markets.

Dalio was born in Queens, NY

His father was a musician and his mother was a homemaker 🎶

Dalio made money as a child by mowing laws and shoveling snow

⛳️ At the age of 12, he walked miles from his home to caddy at a Golf Club

At this golf club, Dalio used his tips from his job to invest $300 in Northeast Airlines which tripled once the airline successfully merged with another company 📈

By the time he reached high school, Dalio had several thousand dollars in his portfolio! 💸

As for schooling, Dalio was labeled as an “average student” who found school to be repetitive and useless 😴

Fortunately, Dalio had a better time in college, enjoying the greater freedom and a newfound passion for meditation 🧘

After graduating from Harvard and starting a family when he moved to Connecticut, he was fired from his first job after punching his boss 🤯

Despite his wild behavior, Dalio maintained his client connections and founded what he’s known for today - Bridgewater Associates 💼

Over time, the fund grew to be the largest hedge fund in the world, making him the 79th wealthiest person in the world in 2017 🤑
